Fortnite vs. PlayerUnknown's Battleground: Which Is Better For You?

PUBG was dominating the Battle Royale genre and looked set to rule the gaming scene for the foreseeable future when something unthinkable happened. Epic Games unannounced the launch of a new Battle Royale game that would, in turn, give this new titan a run for its money.

Nobody expected this news to change the industry but it came with a surprising caveat; their name game was free to play. This saw Fortnite exponentially increase in popularity and the game continues to nab more and more PUBG players every day.

However, this also gave birth to the most heated video gaming debate in recent memory; Fortnite vs. PlayerUnkown’s Battlegrounds – which is better?

Video game rivalries in the same genre are nothing new. Those who play soccer games know of the infamous FIFA vs. PES rivalry that’s been going on since 2006, while First Person Shooting (FPS) gamers can think of the Fortnite/PUBG as a new iteration of Call of Duty vs. Battlefield saga.

But unlike all other gaming rivalries, the one between PUBG and Fortnite is completely unique. Not only do the two games have a completely different take on the Battle Royale genre, but they look completely different too! This has led to a great divide in the gaming community as gamers from different countries passionately argue over which game is better.

The Game Mite team has decided to chime in on this debate. However, instead of just outright stating our opinion, we’ve decided to compare the glaring differences between the two games to help people decide which game works better for them. Join us as we try to answer this unanswerable question once and for all.

The most apparent difference between Fortnite and PUBG is what they bring to the table in terms of aesthetics. The latter boasts ultra realistic graphics and allows users to wear a Ghillie suit to camouflage themselves in their surroundings – leading to a much more tactical and intense game.

On the other hand, we have Fortnite which has a very bright and vivid color palette. The game even pokes fun at PUBG’s serious spin on the Battle Royale genre by continuously adding outlandish and absurd skins like Tomatohead, Rabbit Raider, and Sgt. Green Clover, etc.

Fortnite even added the legendary Bush to its arsenal; allowing gamers to (you guessed it) don the disguise of a bush and wait for the herd to thin out a bit, before making their move.

For all their similarities, there’s a major difference in the mechanics of the two games. Fortnite allows users to build structures using wood, stone, and metal (which people can farm for throughout the game). This especially comes in handy when you’re taking fire from every direction and want to take cover or if you want to get the high ground on your opponents.

On the other hand, PUBG allows users to drive vehicles to traverse the map. This enables quick transportation and always gives gamers the chance to outrun the blue circle no matter where they’re on the map. Drivable vehicles in PUBG include a boat, a bike (with and without a side seat), and a jeep, etc.

What’s great about PUBG is that you can even use these vehicles to run over your opponents making it a fun way to eliminate enemies without engaging in direct contact (case in point: PewDiePie’s video titled “Sponsored by Volvo”).

Another massive difference between the two games is its firing mechanism. In Fortnite, users have to put up with the dreaded bloom. Even if you’re dead accurate with your guns; if it has a low rarity and your enemies are far away, it will be nearly impossible for your bullets to hit the mark.

What makes firing at long distances even more challenging is the fact that the bloom is completely random. So, good luck if you think you can master this annoyingly difficult foe.

On the other hand, PUBG has opted for burst instead. While the burst fire feature makes it difficult for you to hit successive shots over long distances, it’s not random at all. This means that, if you put the hours in, you will easily be able to gun your enemies down with much more ease and accuracy.

This feels much more rewarding for gamers who play the game religiously as they can continue practicing until they master the burst and can use it to their advantage when it counts!

There’s no outright winner between the two games because they’re two completely different entities operating in the same genre. Each has unique features that lead to unique rounds every time you log on so there’s always something new to play for.

At the end of the day, it’s all about what you want from the game. If you want an ultra realistic gaming experience that becomes more and more intense with every kill and has extremely realistic gaming mechanics, we suggest you go for Brendan Greene’s PUBG.

However, if you’re looking for lighthearted fun and just want to trap your opponents in a spike trap or want to rocket-ride with your friends, Fortnite is right up your alley.
