Insurgency: Sandstorm Brings New Tactical Team-Based Artillery Tension to Linux

Sandstorm is the latest installment to the team based first-person shooter series that specifies in lethal close quarters combat. This addition will bring back the objective-oriented multiplayer gameplay, with players experiencing the intensity that arises with the modern combat system. Prepare for your skills to be rewarded, and appreciate that teamwork always wins the fights.

Sandstorm breaks apart from its independent predecessor through expanding and improving upon the combat of the first. Combat is depicted in a manner much more "hardcore", with deadly ballistics, destructive artillery, light-attack vehicles, and HDR audio, which instills newfound fear within an otherwise established genre.

Built on Unreal 4 in the hopes of bringing utter grit to the close quarters combat, this edition aims to bring forth a new era of military realism. While survival is paramount, players should expect to feel every bullet and fear every impact on a visceral level. Through the use of unprecedented audio design with positional voice-chat for realistic teamwork, only death will stand in the way of strategic communication.

The intense atmosphere aims to reinstate terror with modern combat through propelling the action with speed and caution as players push through the war-torn terrain. Taking place within a fictional contemporary conflict in the Middle East, Insurgency: Sandstorm is riddled with quick death and sparse ammunition, which must be carefully managed. The environment should be approached tactfully and navigated with each step in mind in the pursuit of victory.

This sequel allows players to customize their characters in order to demonstrate their veterancy through diverse sets of uniforms, clothing, accessories, and unique character voices. New weapons will be weird, and various upgrades will be available to utilize in outmaneuvering, outflanking, and outsmarting all adversaries. Individual weapons may be customized as players see fit.

Fire support will need to be coordinated with your team, and enemies may be engaged with through vehicles as most are mounted with machine guns. Going head-to-head alongside a small-scale, high-speed competitive match with enemies is to be expected, with little room for success if not planned skillfully with alongside respective teammates.

Stealth and non-lethal mechanics and methods may be utilized before initiating a finalizing blow, which may include peeking around corners, tactfully breaching doorways, discretely calling in air support, and using smoke to cover your team's advance.

The latest E3 gameplay trailer has revealed that the expansive maps will allow for players to battle in 16-versus-16 player game modes or 8 player co-operative missions against artificial intelligence. The competitive multiplayer features currently include user interfaces that allow players to easily broadcast games, replay features, and matchmaking abilities.

PC players who are interested in accessing the beta a few weeks before the release of the game are able to do so now through pre-orders, with those who own the original Insurgency receiving a 10% discount. Those who purchase the game through the pre-order instead of during the official release will receive an additional 10% discount.

Insurgency: Sandstorm will release on PC for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux users come September 2018.
