A short while after The Evil Within 2 launched, players discovered that a first-person mode that was in a small part of the game’s story could be extended to other areas of the game with a type of glitch or hack. The Evil Within community has been demanding this first-person mode become available to the game officially and the development team has listened. With an update provided for free by Tango Gameworks, the game can now be played in first-person mode.
According to The Evil Within 2 Producer Shinsaku Ohara in an interview by Anne Lewis of Bethesda, Shinsaku says the team experimented with first-person in the full game. It was more of an afterthought and a little bit of playing around on their side since the game was meant to be played in third-person. Since there was such a positive reaction to some players tinkering with the game and allowing the first-person mode to be used outside of its intended area, they decided to put it in as a bonus. There are some areas of the game that unfortunately didn’t work in first-person, so it jumps back and forth between third and first-person occasionally. More importantly, the team made sure the game is an enjoyable experience for players with this mode and hopes everyone will enjoy it.
